Creating and facilitating a workshop to engage community stakeholders

Opportunity

A resort community has unique challenges when faced with hotter, drier summers due to climate change. Designing a community wildfire resiliency plan with input from key stakeholders will help prepare for the threat of a catastrophic wildfire.

Actions

Diana designed an engaging workshop and outlined the process to gather input from 30 stakeholders representing different organizations and interests.
Collaborated with the resort’s environmental stewardship manager to plan the agenda and prepare for the workshop, which included a pre-meeting survey to inform the agenda, presentations from wildfire experts, breakout room discussions and time for questions with the subject matter experts.
Facilitated the virtual workshop. Developed action plan for follow up and stakeholder feedback.

Impact

The Resort Municipality of Whistler will incorporate this stakeholder feedback and input to create a Community Wildfire Resiliency Plan.
