Case Study

Creating and facilitating a workshop to engage community stakeholders

Opportunity

A resort community has unique challenges when faced with hotter, drier summers due to climate change. Designing a community wildfire resiliency plan with input from key stakeholders will help prepare for the threat of a catastrophic wildfire.

Actions

  • Diana designed an engaging workshop and outlined the process to gather input from 30 stakeholders representing different organizations and interests.
  • Collaborated with the resort’s environmental stewardship manager to plan the agenda and prepare for the workshop, which included a pre-meeting survey to inform the agenda, presentations from wildfire experts, breakout room discussions and time for questions with the subject matter experts.
  • Facilitated the virtual workshop. Developed action plan for follow up and stakeholder feedback.

Impact

The Resort Municipality of Whistler will incorporate this stakeholder feedback and input to create a Community Wildfire Resiliency Plan.
