Engaging Community Partners to Help Guide the Way Forward

Opportunity

After a challenging year full of change, a Whistler non-profit needed to update its strategic plan and refocus its resources. To deliver social services that address food security, mental health and wellness, it works with a number of organizations to partner in the program design and promotion.  A series of engagement sessions were developed to gather input from stakeholders, employees and the board of directors to update and redesign the strategic plan.

Actions

  • Designed and facilitated four stakeholder engagement sessions
  • Created exercises to encourage sharing, capture ideas and set new goals
  • Opened up a dialogue with a wider audience to build alignment on strategic direction
  • Drafted new planning tools including strategic plan on a page, KPIs, action and operational plans

Impact

The management team now have presentation decks, templates and planning tools to guide them through future planning cycles and simplify the process. The Strategic Plan on a Page is a new visual cue to keep the board of directors and leadership team on track while focusing resources toward specific outcomes. The Action Plan, developed with input from front-line staff, is designed to coach the entire organization to reach for its North Star and keeps the team motivated to achieve targets.
