Case Study

Impact reporting for investments in tourism

Opportunity

The province of British Columbia supports resort communities to build amenities and programs that drive tourism. These investments are carefully reviewed each year with stakeholder input to evaluate outcomes and guide decision-making.

Actions

  • Over a 5-year period, Diana delivered the annual reporting framework required by the province on behalf of the Resort Municipality of Whistler. The metrics tracked for each project varied and required separate analysis. For example, event producers would track attendance over time and this would be correlated with occupancy trends in the resort. Trail counters might be used to assess pedestrian traffic in key areas, or track bikers on new mountain bike trails.

Impact

These reports on Whistler’s investments included rational and evidence to shift program spending, reaffirming areas that are shown to deliver measurable impacts, and moving investment away from areas that qualify for other sources of funding.

Testimonial

I have been lucky enough to work with Diana on three projects now and her consistency of effort, quality of work, guidance and push to the deadline has substantially improved all three projects and done what a consultant should – help out a client. I look forward to working with Diana again.
